IGI Global (IGI) is a full-service publishing company. Founded in 1988, IGI specializes in publishing scholarly books, journals, encyclopedias, teaching cases, and conference proceedings in information science, education, technology and management. IGI publications are distributed worldwide through its distribution channels that include wholesalers/jobbers, online bookstores, direct mail and IGI's Web site. As a full-service publishing company, IGI staff handles all tasks related to production (e.g., typesetting, copyediting, book cover design, printing, etc.), registration (e.g., book registration with the Library of Congress, the British Library, Books-in-Print and other indices), marketing and promotion (e.g., notifying wholesalers/jobbers, overseas distributors, sending review copies to various journals, design and production of promotional materials, and displaying IGI publications at various national and international professional and library conferences annually), and distribution of IGI publications - domestically and overseas.
The following are the steps that are involved in the book publication procedure:
Step 1. Your IGI contract is issued upon acceptance of your book proposal.
Step 2. You receive a copy of the signed contract along with a copy of IGI's Author's Guide, which contains important information regarding our format and requirements for accepted manuscripts.
Step 3. You send IGI a copy of your tentative table of contents.
Step 4. IGI assigns your title an ISBN number for registration of your book with the Library of Congress, the British Library, and R.R. Bowker's Books-in-Print.
Step 5. Our marketing department sends you a copy of the IGI Author's Questionnaire to complete.
Step 6. IGI assigns your book to a graphic artist for design of the cover.
Step 7. After you complete your first draft, you send it via e-mail or on disk to IGI for external review.
Step 8. IGI selects reviewers and has them complete a thorough evaluation of your book.
Step 9. IGI forwards the reviewers' comments and suggestions to you so you can begin revising your manuscript.
Step 10. Upon receipt of your final manuscript, IGI begins production of your book, which includes copyediting, typesetting, printing, etc. During this production process, IGI solicits bids for different quotes for printing and notifies its printing company with the exact number of pages in the book and the firm date of release of the publication.
Step 11. After copyediting and typesetting, the book is sent to you for review before it goes to print.
Step 12. While the book is being printed, IGI's marketing department prepares a pre-release press advisory which is sent to IGI's list of jobbers/wholesalers around the world.
Step 13. The IGI Marketing Department includes the book on IGI's Web site, in IGI's biannual catalogs, and in all other promotional pieces. The book is also added to all major online booksellers, such as Amazon.com and BN.com. In addition, IGI prepares a one-page promotional flier for your book. Multiple copies are sent to you and all of your contributing authors and co-authors for distribution among peers and colleagues at other institutions.
Step 14. Upon receipt of the printed book from the printer, IGI sends you your complimentary copy. IGI also sends copies to the Library of Congress and the British Library to fulfill registration requirements.
Step 15. IGI sends your book to the IGI list of book reviewers for possible review in journals, as well as to any book reviewers requested by you.
Step 16. Sample copies of the book are sent to all of IGI's overseas distributors so they can notify their customers about your book.
